Most of us know that fresh produce is necessary to have a healthy diet, but many of us can’t afford produce in the store.  However, the Oregon Food Bank is providing food for the low income so we can all have healthy food to eat.

In Gresham, here are places where low income folks can get free fresh produce:

Village Support Network

Suppose you were a homeless family, and you had a hundred steps to get back on your feet. Wouldn’t you want a group of people supporting you, cheering you on, helping you keep track of your complicated life?

The Village Support Network trains people to do exactly that.  And they are looking for people in Gresham, who will help support and direct homeless families toward freedom and self-support.

Free Hot Soup — Gresham

A new group has arrived in Gresham, and they are interested in providing soup to those who really need it.  This loosely organized group makes soup and gives it to people on the street as they are able.  Right now, they are serving food to the Clackamas Service Center (Sundays) and at Anawim Christian Community (Wednesdays).

Anawim Hiatus

Through the month of May, Anawim will close almost all of their regular operations for the homeless in Gresham and St. Johns.

For the homeless in Gresham who need showers, clothes, food boxes and their mail, Anawim will still be open at 1pm at 19626 NE Glisan Gresham, OR.

Thank you for your patience. We will announce when we will be opening again for regular hours.

Family Winter Shelter 2014-2015

Human Solutions has opened their Family Winter Shelter again this year!  It opened up November 1 and will continue to run through April.

It is in a new location:  at the old Social Security building at 162nd and Burnside.  The address is: 16141 E. Burnside St. Portland, OR.  It is easily accessible by the MAX and Bus #20.  This location will allow more people to stay there. 

It is available for any adults with children under 18.  It is open from 7pm to 7am.  Please arrive on time. 

They are right now looking for people to provide meals each night that the shelter is open.  If you are interested or have any questions about the shelter, please email  alyons@humansolutions.org 

Anawim Clothes Closet

Are you, or anyone you know, in need of clothes?  The Anawim Clothes Closet is up and running.  This is a clothes closet for families, not just homeless folks.  The hours of operation are during the regular day shelter times, which makes it a two-fer: you can grab some clothes and some coffee and conversation.
