Anawim Clothes Closet

Are you, or anyone you know, in need of clothes?  The Anawim Clothes Closet is up and running.  This is a clothes closet for families, not just homeless folks.  The hours of operation are during the regular day shelter times, which makes it a two-fer: you can grab some clothes and some coffee and conversation.

Back to School Clothing

The Chapel in Troutdale is holding their annual Back-to-School Clothing giveaway. It will be Saturday, September 7th, from 9am until 12pm. They will have both children's and adult clothing.

Two Day Clothing Giveaway

Are you in East Multnomah County? The Chapel on Stark near Mt. Hood College will be having a 2 day giveaway of clothes, especially for kids who can't afford school clothes in Gresham, Troutdale and local cities. 

It will be happening on Friday, August 31 from 3 to 6pm, and Saturday, September 1 from 9am to 12pm. The address is: 27132 Southeast Stark Street Troutdale, OR 97060

Anyone who drops children's clothes to Anawim this month, we will deliver all of those to The Chapel for this big event.

Blessings for Mid-County

Many people have driven by Blessings and said, "Oh, that's the store that's the same as Christian Supply."  Yes, they sell Bibles and Christian gifts, but they are also interested in meeting the needs of Mid-County!

Below the store there is a thrift store that sells gifts and clothes for down-to-earth prices.  A dollar for a t-shirt! Three dollars for a pair of pants!  And if you come in on a Tuesday, they have their stock at 50 percent off!

Also, they have a heart for the homeless in Mid-County.  They are seeking donations of blankets, sleeping bags, socks and meals-in-a-can (chili, ravioli, ready-to-eat soup, etc) which can be handed out to the homeless in their area.  These people really care about people in need!

NOT ONLY THAT!  But Nehemiah Project is establishing a food pantry for needy families.  It hasn't opened yet, but when it does, a family who can pay twenty dollars a month can receive more than a hundred dollars in groceries.  They are signing up now.  Food for the pantry can be dropped off at a barrel in the store.

Clothes Center for East County

One of the greatest needs for East County is a clothes closet that is open at least once a week.  If a family is in need of clothes, they have few places to go.  Snow Cap distributes children's clothes, but their supply has become very short.  The Gresham School district has some clothes for their kids. The health clinic at Trinity Lutheran has clothes once a month, when they have the supply. And The Chapel in Troutdale has a clothes closet that is open two days a month in the first week of the month.  But if a whole family has need of clothing in the middle of the month, they have to be sent to downtown Portland or almost to Clackamas.

**Is there anyone who is looking to do a ministry for the needy in East County? We are still looking for a church who is willing to have a clothes closet that is open every Saturday, or one evening a week, In East Multnomah County. It would meet a real need.**

• supports the family dinner hour, providing groceries so that families may cook meals at home.
• is an natural outgrowth of the neighborliness that made for quilting bees, barn raisings, and gathering food and clothes to meet basic needs of less fortunate neighbors.

Major Programs

Food Pantry: Provides nutritious food boxes for area clients from 10 to 2, Monday through Friday and until 5:30 on Tuesday. Clients can shop for food twelve times in a calender year. Over 4000 people receive food from this pantry each month.

Community Basket: Low-income families can join in this program for a yearly membership fee of $15.00. This gives each of the 140 participating families a monthly box of assorted food and cleaning items, a newsletter about stategies for stretching limited budgets, and free coupons.

Children's Clothes Closet: Children in the 8th grade and under can select needed clothing for free throughout the year. This Fall, 1000 children were outfitted with new or used clothing and school supplies to start the school year.

Please Help!

Volunteer Your Time: There is an ongoing need for people to pack food boxes, sort clothes, drive the truck, interview clients, answer phones or do other office work. Special skills like grant writing, computer management and maintenance, and committee work are also needed.

Donate Food and Clothes: These items can be brought to 17788 SE Pine from 9-3p.m., Monday-Friday. Baby food, formula and children's clothes are always in short supply.

Free Health Clinic (and more!) This Sunday!

On Sunday November 20th the uninsured can participate in a health clinic. Medical appointments will be held there and one can sign up for the Good News Community Health center as well.

ALSO there will be haircuts, foot care, clothes, stress management training and a list for dental appointments.

Come to Trinity Lutheran, 507 W Powell in Gresham between 2:30 and 4:30.
