Fresh Food for Schoolkids!

"While the U.S. celebrates National Farm to School Month in October, Oregon finds itself at the front of the line in supporting programs that provide healthy, nutritious, and locally-grown foods to children. With tremendous support from the Oregon Legislature, every school district in Oregon has an opportunity to be reimbursed for serving kids Oregon grown and processed foods. That is unprecedented among all states and fortifies Oregon’s standing as a national leader in the farm to school movement."

Encourage your schools to get farm-fresh food and get reimbursed!

Peacemaking among the Homeless

Would you like to learn how to create a context of peace in a homeless service? How can you transform conflict into building trust? What are some tools to defuse anger? What is the best way to deal with a violent situation nonviolently?

We will be answering all these questions and more in a three part Peacemaking Among the Homeless class. It is specifically training for workers in Anawim day shelters, but it would be useful for any face-to-face work among the homeless. Real situations will be dramatized and discussed.

This class will be held on Saturday mornings,
May 16, May 23 and June 6, from 10am to 12pm.
Sanctuary, 19626 NE Glisan Gresham

We also have the same class being held on Tuesday evenings, May 26, June 2 and June 9 at First Baptist Church of Gresham, 224 W Powell, Gresham.

Poor People Need a Break, Too!

One of the worst parts about being poor is the level of stress that we are constantly under. Sometimes we just need to take a break, relax, and appreciate some beauty.

There is a program in Portland that gives us that opportunity!
If you have an Oregon Trail (SNAP) card, you qualify for five dollar tickets to live music, plays, dance performances and more!  Each card qualifies for two five dollar tickets, but you can check to see if there might be options for larger groups.

It is through the Arts for All program, and there are different opportunities to experience local performances every week!  Participating groups include: NW Film Center, Artists Repertory Theatre, Oregon Symphony, Oregon Children’s Theatre, Body Vox Theatre, and many more!
